CERTIFICATED SALARY PLACEMENT CONTINUING EDUCATION INFORMATION

Please remember the following when submitting documentation of credits and clock hours earned for the purpose of calculating salary placement:

Classes Taken Through Anacortes School District:
  1. All class offerings are approved for Clock Hours
  2. Registration for the class must be completed through ProDev
  3. Documentation for all completed classes will automatically be submitted to Personnel for salary advancement (if registered through ProDev)
For Classes Taken Outside Anacortes School District
  1.  Submit the following documents as a packet to Personnel:
  • Official transcript or a carbonless copy of the clock hour registration form issued by the approved clock hour provider, and;
  •  Approval of College Credits and Clock Hours for Salary Increments form. One form is required for each class taken.

DEADLINE 
All credits for certificated salary lane change must be completed by October 1. All associated documentation must be received by the Human Resources Department by the last working day in October. DOCUMENTATION OF ACADEMIC CREDITS
By state law, we convert all credits to quarter hours for recording and determining your schedule placement. Shown below are the standard conversions:

Units

Some institutions record in units. The transcript will identify that conversion. For example, some institutions are 1.0 Unit = 5 Quarter Hour Credits, and some are 1.0 Unit = 6 Quarter Hour Credits.

Clock Hours

10.0 Clock Hours = 1.0 Quarter Hour Credits. *Clock hours are NOT academic credits. See the Clock Hour information below.

  

 

CLOCK HOURS

Clock hours are typically professional development training activities. Only those clock hours that are offered and documented from an approved Washington State clock hour provider can be used toward your schedule placement.  Here are some other important rules about clock hours: Clock hours must be a minimum of three (3) hours; Every ten (10) clock hours converts to one (1.0) quarter-hourly; Clock hours must also meet one of the seven (7) course criteria as noted previously.

 

  1. Per WAC 392-121-262, credits earned after September 1, 1995, must satisfy the following criteria:

     

    1. At the time credits are recognized by the school district or charter school, the content of the course must meet at least one of the following:

       

      1. It is consistent with a school-based plan for mastery of student learning goals as referenced in RCW 28A.655.110, the annual school performance report, for the school in which the individual is assigned;
      2. It pertains to the individual's current assignment or expected assignment for the following school year;
      3. It is necessary for obtaining endorsement as prescribed by the Washington professional educator standards board;
      4. It is specifically required for obtaining advanced levels of certification;
      5. It is included in a college or university degree program that pertains to the individual's current assignment or potential future assignment as a certificated instructional staff;
      6. It addresses research-based assessment and instructional strategies for students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and language disabilities when addressing learning goal one under RCW 28A.150.210, as applicable and appropriate for individual certificated instructional staff; or
      7. Beginning in the 2011-12 school year, it pertains to the revised teacher evaluation system under RCW 28A.405.100, including the professional development training provided in RCW 28A.405.106.

CUT-OFF DATES
Consistent with the requirements of the CBA, the following dates are important for you to know:

  1. Certificated personnel successfully completing courses that are approved by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction for placement on the state salary schedule (state allocation model/leap schedule) will receive approval for placement on the salary schedule for courses completed prior to September 1 of the contract year and documented by official transcript no later than December 1 of the contract year.
  2. 100 level courses that are accepted by the State for placement on the State allocation model will be approved for placement on the salary schedule.
  3. Transcripts are required for verification of credits earned.  It is the employee's responsibility to provide the District administrative office with the information and documentation required for salary schedule advancement.
  4. The District will accept clock hour and in-service credits for placement on the District salary schedule that are acceptable for placement by O.S.P.I.
