"Kids Who Code" AmeriCorps VISTA Position
The Anacortes School District is now recruiting for a very special one-year AmeriCorps-sponsored volunteer position to initiate a before-school beginning computer coding program for elementary students in poverty.  This full-time position, based at Island View Elementary, would help assess and coordinate resources, curricula, outreach to parents and community, and recruitment and training of skilled volunteer leaders in order to launch the program by September 2017.  The VISTA member would continue other initiatives already in progress as part of Island View's early-morning program and would support our academic tutors and social/emotional mentors program.

AmeriCorps Washington Reading Corps Position
The Anacortes School District is now recruiting for an AmeriCorps/Washington Reading Corps members to begin work in January!  If you love children, love to read, and believe in the value of community and education, consider joining us for an intensive and rewarding year of service to help struggling readers in grades K - 6 gain confidence and proficiency. Whether a gap year student or a mature adult, anyone who is interested in gaining experience in the world of education is encouraged to apply! 

AmeriCorps is a national service organization that places volunteers in communities to combat poverty and strengthen resources, including educational outcomes. Washington Reading Corps focuses on struggling readers to help schools effectively serve students in need. Monthly stipend, educational award, and other benefits are available. 

This position is a 40 hour per week, six-month term, beginning January 16, 2017, and ending July 15, 2017.  This member will serve at Mount Erie Elementary.

Seeking Reading Volunteers for Young Students
Whitney School is in need of caring adult volunteers to read with kindergarten students on a regular basis.  Just one hour of your time each week can make so much difference to these beginning learners.  Training is provided!  If you are able to help, please contact ASD Volunteer Coordinator Keiko McCracken, kmccracken@asd103.org or 360.293.1234.
