Emergency Substitute Teachers

Have you thought of becoming a teacher? Do you have a college degree and experience working with children? Then we need you!

We are looking for qualified candidates to sponsor who meet the above criteria. With our district’s support, candidates can apply to obtain their Emergency Substitute Teaching certificate through the state of Washington
This process requires applications be completed from both the Anacortes School District and Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI).

  •  Must hold a 4 year degree
  •  Complete an online job application with Anacortes School District
  •  Complete an online application with OSPI (cost of application $44)
  •  Notify our Human Resources Department when OSPI application is compIete
  •  Our staff will initiate the Emergency Substitute Teaching Certificate with OSPI
  •  Emergency Substitute Teaching Certificate will be issued to applicant within 2-4 weeks
  •  Applicant notifies our Human Resources Department when certificate is received
  •  Fingerprints must be on file with OSPI (please note OSPI only keeps fingerprints on file  for 2 years only).  Fingerprints may be done electronically at ESD 189 for $72.

Benefits of getting your Emergency Substitute Certificate

  •  Certificate good for 3 years
  •  Substitute pay for Anacortes School District is $130/full-day (7hrs, 30 min lunch)
  •  Upon completion of 210 hrs, pay will be at "senior" rate, $150.15/full-day
