For the fourth year in a row, Island View Elementary has received an Academic Achievement Award from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI).

This year’s award is specifically for Island View’s work in closing the achievement gap for students who receive special education services. Island View staff have worked very hard to reverse the nation-wide trend that students with disabilities score lower on state achievement tests than their non-SPED counterparts. To qualify for this recognition, a school must close the achievement gap by at least 10 points, based on three years’ worth of data.

“Clearly this is a direct reflection of the hard work of our students, the dedication of our entire staff, and the support and guidance of our parents,” said Brian Hanrahan, Island View principal.

More information about the award can be found on OSPI’s website.
