The Anacortes School District successfully completed its Consolidated Program Review, which monitors a local education agency’s implementation of critical civil rights requirements under state and federal law. The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction administers the review. Each district must complete the review every four years.

K.C. Knudson, assistant superintendent of teaching and learning, led the district’s efforts to ensure compliance.

“District staff spent hours compiling, updating, and reviewing documents to ensure that we are compliant with state and federal law,” said Knudson. “While time-consuming, it is important to make sure we are properly notifying our students and staff of their rights and responsibilities.”

During the review, the district updated its nondiscrimination, sexual harassment, and affirmative action policies and procedures, among others. All updated language is available in the district and school handbooks, posted on the district website: www.asd103.org.

The district also conducted a review of its services provided to students with special needs, highly capable learners, and English learners. A full list of the Civil Rights checklist can be found on OSPI’s website.
