WWII and the Berlin Airlift - Special Presentation
Ingrid Azvedo will share her personal story of tragedy and triumph with the Anacortes community during a public presentation on Thursday, May 24 at 7 p.m. at Island View Elementary.
Growing up in war-torn Berlin in the 1940s, Azvedo faced bombs, starvation and devastation. She credits the Berlin Airlift - where aircrews from western allies delivered supplies to West Berlin - with saving her life. Azvedo was invited to Anacortes by a team of Anacortes Middle School students who recently won the State History Day competition for their documentary on the Berlin Airlift.
The community is invited to attend this powerful event. The students will start the evening with a presentation of their documentary. Azvedo’s trip is co-sponsored by the Anacortes Senior College and the Majestic Inn and Spa.
