8th Grade Parent Night

All students participate in the AHS Advisory Program throughout high school. During Advisory, students explore three guiding questions: Who am I? Where am I going? How am I going to get there? 

Advisory is a designated class period once per week led by students’ advisors with lessons prepared by the counselors and high school leadership team.  During this time students prepare their High School and Beyond Plans, explore college and career options, and develop social and emotional skills.

This time is also for Associated Student Body activities and furthering a positive school climate and culture.  Activities may include ASB activities, assemblies, class meetings, school policy review, community building, surveys, and student-teacher conferences/work time.

Many national college entrance exams are available to AHS students.  

PSAT - a practice SAT that's offered to 9th -11th grades on a school day in the fall.  This test is not for college entrance but juniors taking it become eligible for certain scholarships.  You can find more information online at the College Board Website.  Emails are sent out to our students and families when the registration window is open. 

SAT - a commonly required college entrance exam offered to 11th and 12th graders in both Fall and Spring during the school day.  Emails are sent out to our students and families when the registration window is open for school-day tests at AHS. If you are interested in taking the SAT at another school on another date, you can find test centers and register HERE.

ACT - another commonly required college entrance exam offered in the Spring.  You can find more information on the test and how to register HERE.

ASVAB - students who are interested in a military career can look into taking the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) to predict success in the military. 

Advanced Placement  - AHS also offers 10 AP courses during the year.  The goal of the courses is to earn college credit with eligible test scores.  Speak with a counselor about registering for one of these classes.
