Anacortes School District Selects Dr. Carl Bruner as Interim Superintendent for 2025–2026 School Year
The Anacortes School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Carl Bruner as Interim Superintendent for the 2025–2026 school year, effective July 1, 2025.
The Anacortes School Board voted unanimously to approve Dr. Bruner’s appointment at its special meeting on June 20, 2025. His contract is scheduled to be finalized at the June 27, 2025, special board meeting.
Dr. Bruner brings more than four decades of leadership in public education, including 16 years as Superintendent of the Mount Vernon School District and multiple successful interim leadership roles across Washington. He is widely respected for his commitment to inclusive, student-centered practices and for building collaborative cultures that foster academic and community success.
“Dr. Bruner is a proven leader with a deep understanding of educational systems, equity, and community engagement,” said Jennie Beltramini, President of the Anacortes School Board. “We are confident in his ability to lead during this time of transition and continue the district’s focus on supporting all students.”
Reflecting on the role, Dr. Bruner shared, “I have long admired the Anacortes School District’s strong values, talented educators, and commitment to students. I’m honored to serve as interim superintendent and look forward to working alongside staff, families, and the community to support every learner.”
Throughout his career, Dr. Bruner has supported districts through complex challenges, strategic planning, and continuous improvement efforts. His leadership is grounded in integrity, compassion, and a deep commitment to educational excellence.
The School Board will begin a formal search for a permanent superintendent in the winter of 2025.
