Welcome to the Anacortes School District! Located on beautiful Fidalgo Island, Anacortes is a leader in public education, with a strong vision for teaching and learning. Our strategic plan is anchored by four pillars: Quality Instruction and Curriculum, Partnerships, Social-Emotional Learning, and Stewardship. These pillars guide our work and decisions, ensuring that every student rises to their fullest potential. Anacortes schools benefit from highly supportive families, community members, and an impressive network of volunteers. Our unique school-community partnership resulted in one of the highest school levy ‘yes votes’ in the State of Washington. We’re passionate about fostering a lifelong love of learning and making a difference in our student's lives.
We cater to more than 2,500 students, each with diverse thoughts, beliefs, perspectives, and experiences. Our mission is to inspire every student daily through high-quality instruction that fosters creativity, personal growth, character development, and a lifelong passion for learning. Additionally, we employ the 5D framework for teacher evaluation and professional growth.
District course design and core instructional materials are regularly reviewed to ensure their ongoing alignment with state law, teaching and learning standards, and research-based best practices. All students will receive high-quality core instruction and, as appropriate, strategic and intensive intervention supports matched to student needs.
We are committed to transparent, open, and collaborative partnerships with our students, families, staff, and community. Our schools and district use a variety of communication tools to communicate with our students and families, including the Anacortes Pride Newspaper, press releases, and regular emails.
The Strategic Plan is framed by our vision, mission, beliefs, and commitment to equity.
The goals in the Strategic Plan provide the basis to develop, update, and adopt the Annual Operating Plan each year. The Annual Operating Plan is adopted in October each year.
The Pillars Anchoring the District's Strategic Plan
All district and school goals support these pillars. Our work together allows us to remain competitive with the best districts in the state. Equity serves as the base of these pillars, guiding our work and decisions.
Equity
Our school district board of directors and staff believe it is both a moral and ethical responsibility to provide access and opportunity for every student; to address the specific and differing abilities and needs of all learners; to eliminate social, racial and economic barriers; and to understand and celebrate differences. Schools have a responsibility to equip students to be inquisitive, thoughtful, engaged members of a diverse and evolving world. We are in the business of teaching students how to think critically, not what to think.
Student Learner Outcomes
What does the strategic plan mean for students? Students in our district will say:
The School Report Card is a parent-friendly resource for data on student demographics, student performance, and school staff in our state. The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) is the primary agency charged with overseeing K-12 public education in Washington state. Its School Report Card provides data on student demographics, student performance, and school staff throughout Washington State. Below are links to our district report card along with reports for each school.

Ensuring the Safety and Security of Our Students
Our top priority is to ensure a safe and secure environment for all students during the school day. To support this, we have a closed campus policy and monitor who enters and leaves the grounds. This is a crucial measure to protect both students and staff.
Please be aware of the following:
In accordance with Board Policy 4260, school facilities are reserved exclusively for district-approved programs and activities during the school day. This ensures that our regular programming is not disrupted.
We understand that this may be unexpected, especially if you have visited without any issues before. However, we must follow these guidelines to maintain a safe environment for everyone. Community members are welcome to use the school fields and playgrounds outside of school hours as long as they do not conflict with school events or programs.
