Evaluation System Goal

To maintain and continually improve the comprehensive, systems-linked evaluation models for both principals and teachers that include a 4-tiered rating system, meets the 8 WA State criteria, uses student assessment and multiple measures where applicable, and functions as tools to help improve instruction, leadership, and student learning.

Teacher-Principal Evaluation Project (TPEP)

Anacortes School District was one of eight districts in Washington State selected as a grant-funded site to develop and pilot a new evaluation tool for teachers and principals. The district received a grant for two years to fund the project and allow Anacortes to have a "voice" at the state level in the development of these instruments.

A team of teachers, principals, administrators and association representatives worked to develop, pilot and implement teacher and principal evaluation instruments that are aligned with new state criteria, research-based teaching and leadership practices, student growth measures and professional growth measures, using four tier rubrics.

The Anacortes model for teacher evaluation was one of three selected by the State of Washington for statewide implementation. In compliance with legislation, all school districts in Washington State will be required to fully implement the new teacher-principal evaluation by 2015.

The evaluation tools developed in Anacortes will support professional growth and promote student achievement.
