We invite the community to visit Veterans Memorial Plaza at Anacortes High School this Veterans Day and show appreciation to all the brave men and women who have served, and continue to serve, our country.
The plaza will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, November 11. No events are planned; rather we invite the community in for reflection and tribute. The plaza is comprised of a memorial designed by local architect Brooks Middleton, with input from the Veterans Memorial Committee, as well as a display honoring two Medal of Honor recipients with local connections. Restrooms will be open during this time. The Anacortes School District is closed on Friday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day.

We understand that these are scary situations, and we will do everything we can to ensure student and staff safety. We are grateful for our strong relationships with law enforcement, as well as our building leadership team for their quick work in securing the building.
We are continuing to work on improving the district’s communication system, and will keep families and staff informed when the system is fully operational.

The high school campus is now out of lockdown. The Anacortes Police Department conducted a sweep of the building, and has determined that it is safe for students to return to class. Student and staff safety is our top priority; we will always take precautions in these situations to ensure everyone’s safety.
The threat received this morning was similar to other threats received this week, and are being actively investigated by law enforcement. There is no indication that the threat originated from on campus. Due to the active, ongoing investigation, we are limited in the amount of information we can provide. The Anacortes Police Department is doing an excellent job supporting our team. We appreciate their partnership in helping us solve this situation.
AHS and Cap Sante High Schools are currently in lockdown due to another threat that was received this morning. Law enforcement is on site and investigating the threat. Our staff are keeping students calm. Please avoid the high school campus at this time. We will continue to keep everyone up to date.
Thank you for your patience while we investigated this morning’s bomb threat. This is the second threat received this week, and it is unfortunate that these incidents take away valuable class time from our students and teachers. AHS will follow this bell schedule once students return to school following this morning’s 2-hour delay. The Cap Sante morning session is canceled, but that afternoon session will run per their regular Wednesday schedule.
Today’s PSAT will be rescheduled to October 25. The high school will update students and families with more information.
AMS students with morning classes at AHS should go to AMS for class this morning.
We have completed a detailed review of the high school’s security system, including cameras and alarms. Law enforcement has conducted a thorough sweep of the building, and have determined that the building is safe. They will continue to investigate the source of the threats, and believe both threats to be unfounded. If anyone has information related to this specific incident, please contact APD at (360) 293-4684. If you see anything suspicious, please call 911 and notify a building administrator immediately.
