Welcome to the AHS Counseling Center!

The Anacortes High School Counseling Department provides students and families resources to help navigate high school and beyond.  School counselors can assist you with Academics, College and Career Readiness and Personal/Social concerns and support.

 

On this website you will find family and community resources, updates from your counseling team, contact information and more.  We are here to serve all students and our website is updated weekly.

Important Tips

  • AHS Counselors meet with and reply to students during school / business hours, in the order that requests are received. You only need to sign up once. Typically there are several students in line, so thank you for your patience as we support students as quickly as possible.
  • Counselors will send you a pass for your appointment once we are available to meet.
  • Please tell us if your need is urgent, so we can prioritize if needed.
  • Immediate needs: Tell an adult at school right away so we can determine how to best support you.

Role of School Counselors & School Social Worker

School Counselor: We support students’ academic success, social-emotional wellness, and postsecondary goals and development. Services include: Academic advising and support; Schedules; Graduation requirement tracking and credit monitoring; Short-Term Counseling; Mental Health Referrals; NCTA & Running Start; Open Doors; College & Career Advising; Advisory lessons: Social-Emotional, College/Career, and High School & Beyond Plan; 504 Plans; New student registration and support; Financial Aid and Scholarships; Student / Parent Nights; Foreign Exchange Students Liaison; Substance use referrals; Academic referrals and support.

 

School Social Worker: Mrs. Engman supports students and families with difficult life circumstances by providing assessment, intervention, and case management services such as Community resource referral; Short-term counseling; Skill-building & Problem Solving; Mental health & Substance use referrals; Post-high school planning; and support with in-depth needs in a variety of areas, including food, clothing, housing, employability, and medical/dental care. Mrs. Engman runs the Mental Health Awareness Club and Varsity in Volunteerism.
